The Sackville Rod &Gun Club’s annual Sportsman’s Supper will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2015, at the Tantramar Veteran’s Memorial Civic Centre, 182 Main Street, Sackville, N.B.. Tickets are $20. This year’s meal will be roast beef, vegetables and dessert. There will be a cash bar. Following the meal, raffles and games will take place. Doors will open at 5:30, with the meal being served at 7:00.

Monthly Meeting March 4, 2015
The SRGC monthly meeting will be taking place on March 4, 2015 at the Tantramar Civic Center at 7:00. The guest speaker will be a representative from the Petitcodiac Watershed Alliance. The PWA is a non-profit environmental group that tries to improve the environment surrounding the Petitcodiac and Memramcook rivers and their tributaries. This group has undertaken a large number of projects in the last year including Water quality testing, creek restoration, wood turtle monitoring, and surveys for the critically endangered inner Bay of Fundy Salmon in conjunction with the Fundy National Park and Fort Folly Habitat Recovery Program. The Sackville Rod & Gun Club will be hosting a Firearms Safety/Hunter Education course on March 9,10, 16, 17 with testing on the 19. Enrollment is limited so sign up today by calling the Dieppe DNR office at 506-856-2344. The course is open to residents of NB or NS.

Free introduction to .22 shoot
The Sackville Rod & Gun Club will be hosting a free .22 shoot at the Walker Road Range Sunday Oct. 5 from 12-3 (weather permitting). Each participant will be given 20 shots for free with additional shells available for a nominal fee. Participants will be guided 1 on 1 with trained club members to be taught basic gun handling and shooting techniques. All equipment is provided and no training necessary!
Fall Fair Clay Pigeon Shoot
The Sackville Rod & Gun club will be hosting a public Fall Fair shoot at our Landing Road Range on Sat Sept 20th from 10:00-12:30. Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishes. This is for ages 12 and up. There will be instructors there to help those who have never fired a shotgun before. Hearing and eye protection will be supplied at no cost to all shooters.

Sheri Somerville is the Natural Gas Advisor for the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP) in New Brunswick. CAPP is a national association representing 100 companies throughout Canada who explore for, develop and produce natural gas, natural gas liquids, crude oil and oil sands; as well as 150 associate members that provide a wide range of services to support the upstream crude oil and natural gas industry. CAPP is working together with the New Brunswick Oil & Natural Gas Association (NBO&NGA) to help deliver fact-based information about the exploration and development of oil and natural gas in New Brunswick. With more than 16 years of multi-sector experience in public and business communications at the local, national and international levels, Sheri has a deep understanding of the natural gas exploration and development sector in the Maritimes. She is responsible for engaging a stakeholders, communities, groups, and associations to encourage the flow of science-based information about natural gas potential, exploration and development; its' fit into the energy portfolio; and the economic opportunities it presents.

Brad Walters is Professor and Coordinator of Environmental Studies at Mount Allison University. He has published extensively on forest ecology and
management, fisheries, methods in human ecology, the human influence on tropical forests, and many other environmentally-related subjects. From 2001 to 2011, Dr. Walters was Head of the Mangrove & Forested Wetlands Working Group, the International Union of Forestry Research Organizations. He has been a member of the Environmental Chamber of Maritime Forest Stewardship Council, the New Brunswick Community Land Trust Board of Directors, the New Brunswick Nature Trust Board of Directors among others.
Jim Emberger has His professional experience includes four years as an investigator and instructor for the U.S. FederaL Energy Administration, a
twenty-year career as a systems consultant and software developer, and five years as the Executive Director of a natural history education non-profit organization that he co-founded with professors from Johns Hopkins. Now retired, he lives in Taymouth, where for the last four years he has been deeply involved as a researcher of shale gas for his local community group, Taymouth Environmental Action. He continues the work of researching, writing and speaking about shale gas and other energy issues as a representative of the New Brunswick Anti-Shale Gas Alliance.

The 2013 Annual Youth Fishing Derby
The annual youth fishing derby was held on Saturday June 1st, 2013 in Rockport. The Derby was filled to capacity with 65 children registered (free of charge) between the ages of 5 and 15. A free BBQ was prepared by the Conservation Officers from the Canadian Wildlife Services, The Department of Fisheries & Oceans and the New Brunswick Department of Natural Resources. In addition to the fishing the DNR poaching trailer was on display and a fly casting event was held.
The derby was a great success with 57 trout caught. Prizes were made available to all participants thanks to the NB Conservation Association. Grand prizes were awarded as follows:
Largest Fish: 1st Naomi Smith, 2nd Scott Leblanc, Logan Thompson
Longest String of Fish: 1st Dalton Thompson, 2nd Dylan Wilson, 3rd Hunter Ward

The event opened with a welcome from Master of Ceremonies Ray Cochrane, followed by a Hip of Beef meal, catered by Laurie Ann Wesselby.
Throughout the evening a number of draws and raffles were held. Prizes included hotel stays/spa packages from Coastal Inns and Downtown Diner, a men’s raffle for 30 lbs of beef, a 32” television, whipper snipper, hunting rifle, and $100 ave Easy Gift certificates. In all more than 45 raffle items were won.
The Silent auction offered items ranging from Inuit carvings, to beaver traps, to fishing rods, prints, furniture, rifle scopes and ATV helmets.
The live auction included an antique sign, 4 cords of firewood, a Brian Burke autographed Toronto Maple Leafs jersey, several prints and a cake.

Clay bird shooting begins!
The Sackville Rod & Gun Club Inc. will be holding at their Landing Road Range their first clay bird shoot of the season Monday, April 29, starting at 6:00 PM.
This activity will continue every Monday night from now until the last of September, weather permitting.

At the 89th annual New Brunswick Wildlife Federation Annual General Meeting the Sackville Rod & Gun Club was awarded the Most Active Branch award for the second consecutive year.
